Over the past couple of years, I have read multiple articles and posts talking about how to be more environmentally friendly. Some of these articles are easy to follow and recommend practical ideas or products, but others can quickly become overwhelming and have ideas that may take a lot of time or money. I've always been under the belief that every little bit helps and the best way to start making changes it to take baby sets. A couple of years ago I decided that I would implement a minimum of three new environmental changes into my life every year. This way I wouldn't be making a lot of dramatic changes at once and might be able to inspire a few friends to do the same. So, here are three products I've recently brought into my life to try and be a bit more environmentally friendly.
Patch Organic Strips
When I first started looking into being a bit more environmentally friendly, I knew I wanted to begin by replacing items I tend to use and throw away rather frequently. Band-aids weren't where my mind immediately went, but they are something we all use from time to time. I received the Activated Charcoal Patch Organic Strips in a Retreat Yourself Box, and I have loved them ever since. They are latex free and biodegradable, plus they look super cool. So far I have only used them a couple of times and am impressed so far (you can also find an aloe vera version and a coconut oil version)
Something I know we all use and purchase regularly is a toothbrush. I have been using bamboo toothbrushes for over six months now, and I love them. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants and is a super environmentally friendly material. There are quite a few different brands, and most of them don't cost much more than a traditional plastic toothbrush. It can feel a bit strange to use at first, but once you've become used to the texture you won't notice it anymore (make sure you check for any splinters before you use it)
Ethique Flash Solid Laundry Bar & Stain Remover
Is it weird to say that I don't mind handwashing since I discovered the Ethique Solid Laundry Bar? This product looks like a bar of soap (which it also works as); however, it also makes hand washing so much easier for me. I particularly enjoy being able to use this product under the arms of shirts that have been sitting at the bottom of the dirty clothes pile for a bit too long, as it is such a great way to target the area and is less messy than a liquid soap. Ethique is a brand that uses completely biodegradable packaging and has a variety of skin and hair products that also come in a solid bar form.
Of course, I'm not an expert and am always trying to learn about more ways to be a little more environmentally friendly. Let me know what your favourite environmentally friendly products are in the comments.
